Trailer for A24 Horror Movie “Opus” Starring Screen Legend John Malkovich Makes Its Spooky Debut

Full admission time: We here at India Express LOVE great acting, and when it comes to such an elusive creature as that, there are few thespians currently on the scene who can deliver powerhouse bravura performances better than John Malkovich. This Christopher, Illinois native has been captivating audiences with his unparalleled range in a variety of eclectic parts ranging from a scheming lothario in Dangerous Liaisons, a simple-minded farm hand in Gary Sinise’s adaptation of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, a psychopathic killer dueling with Clint Eastwood in the tense In the Line of Fire, all the way to what many consider to be the Christopher, Illinois native’s crowning and surreal achievement, 1999s gonzo head-trip Being John Malkovich. So yeah, we here at Vents have a very special regard for this two-time Oscar nominee and we’re always up for any new endeavor he decides to embark upon, be it the silver screen, the boob tube or (Malkovich’s first and true love) the stage. Which brings us to this intriguing bit of news about a horror film which the actor will next be seen in, as brought to us by our Shadow of the Vampire pals over at  The Hollywood Reporter.

Screen legend John Malkovich will next be seen on the big screen in the upcoming Mark Anthony Green-directed A24 horror film Opus. The film follows a young wordsmith by the name of Ariel (Ayo Edebiri) who is tasked with filing a story about a reclusive and nigh legendary pop crooner (Malkovich). All is not quite as it first seems, however, as the young writer discovers some pretty unsettling activities afoot, all of which seemingly lead back to the feet of the very man she’s been assigned to speak with.

The very first look at Opus dropped this morning and, lucky-ducky you, Dear and Constant Reader, we have the full-fledged official trailer right here for you to feast those baby blues on!

Opus originally began receiving some serious industry buzz when the project was first announced a short time back, all of which seems to be building towards the crescendo which will be its January 27 debut at no less of a movie Mecca as the Sundance Film Festival. And with a cast led by Malkovich, Edebiri, Juliette Lewis, Murray Bartlett, Amber Midthunder (cool name, by the by), Stepanie Suganami, Young Mazino and Tatanka Means, who can blame film buffs for circling this top-drawer thriller?

Curious? Intrigued? Frankly, so are we. But as we noted at the very top, we’re Grade-A suckers when it comes to anything Malkovich, so bring this spooky thriller on, especially since this marks Green’s debut as a feature film director.

Opus is set to scare moviegoers around the globe when it’s released theatrically this March 14!
